"The Bay Cataract Services NPC aims to eliminate preventable blindness in underserved communities, by funding life-changing surgeries, empowering local health systems and delivering compassionate, accessible eye care in the Eastern Cape."Â
The Eastern Cape, one of the nine Provinces in South Africa, suffers from critical issues relating to the quality and accessibility of eye care services. The greatest of these include a shortage of eye care professionals in the public sector, and a lack of infrastructure and equipment.*
These were the burdens that inspired three doctors in Gqeberha to start the Bay Cataract Services NPC.
By partnering with the Provincial Eye Clinics, Bay Cataract Services NPC hopes to alleviate the burden on the state sector, and allow more patients the opportunity to access eye care.
